Dr. Ofodile, Lauretta Nwanneka

Dr. Ofodile, Lauretta Nwanneka is a Chief Lecturer, Department of Biological Science, Yaba College of Technology. She served as the Director, College Central Research Laboratory (2018-2022), Head, Department of Biological Sciences (2009-2012), Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos, Nigeria. A Botanist with specialization in mycology and mushroom biotechnology. Her PhD research was carried out at the Biological Interaction Laboratory, Kew Botanic Garden, United Kingdom, where she trained in techniques in natural product chemistry. She has over 45 scholarly articles in local and international journals to her credit. Her research areas include: waste management, mushroom production technology, and natural product chemistry for drug production from mushrooms and plants. Dr. Ofodile was awarded a professorial position by the American University, Port Novo, and Republic of Benin in May 2023. Prof. Ofodile is a multiple grant award winner. Some of her awards, scholarships, and research grants include the French Embassy Fund 2024 on plastic waste management, 2024 TETFUND National Research Fund, 2020 National Research Fund-TETFUND grant, Innovate Lagos Research Grant 2014 by Lagos State Government for investigation into Ganoderma mushrooms against breast cancer cells. Netherland Fellowship on climate change mitigation and control 2012, MASHAV (State of Israel) Fellowship on integrated pest management and control 2003, Institutional Educational Trust Fund Research Grant (TETFUND) 2013, 2015, 2024. She is one of the 2023 Awardees of UKAID prototype and startup funding for innovation to market project through RISA. Her MVP called Fungigro, is presently undergoing validation. She is a member of several professional bodies, which include the British Mycological Society, Society for Fungi Conservation, International Mycological Society, Botanical Association of Nigeria, International Network of Women Engineers scientists (INWES), Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD). She has two patents to her credit.
